How I use MT

Mena asks how we use MT. I am using MT 2.661 to run three blogs: this one, my Food Blog, and a camping blog for 7 authors (friends I go camping with).

None of these are commercial, although I will admit to creating (and shutting down) a blog or two with 3 or 4 authors so we could bat around a few ideas that might become commercial. I've used an earlier version as a project management site but switched to a simple perl script and interface for such projects.

I have not paid any fees to Six Apart, but I did buy Ben and Mena a drink once, and drove them to their Hotel when they were in town.

Why haven't I enabled trackback? Because it causes rebuild errors and since this whole hobby takes enough of my time, I not willing to spend time or money on tech support. Besides, if I trackback to Mena's site, she'd find out I've never paid and come kick my ass.

That all said, I'd recommend reading the Sixlog's trackback's for this question. It's full of fascinating accounts of how the MT software, and the Web are being used for cummunication and documentation in many peoples lives. One thing is for sure, it's a nice established market that Ben and Mena and the rest of the Six Apart team deserve to profit from.

Cicadas

I went camping in Hoosier National Forest this weekend, where we usually see some pretty wierd insects - giant stick insects, enormous wolf spiders etc. But it was really wierd to see a few 17-year Brood X cicadas emerging. The climb up the trees at night, pop out of their shells, looking very pale, except for red eyes and two dark false eye spots. After a few hours their wings start unfolding, and after a few more hours, they darken.

Unlike the Bloomington Ind. man who ate 30 of them, we didn't taste them. I eat just about anything, but these were just too eerie.

All kinds of info on Periodical Cicadas

The Smithsonian has a good cicada image gallery

Local Weblog news

Wendy does a nice recap of the Fox news piece on blogging. "Matt Weiler has to patiently explain the difference between a weblog and a chat room. No kidding, they asked both of us about that. It's like getting a squirrel confused with a mailbox because they're both on the sidewalk."

I've read Copyright Readings before, but I didn't know we shared the same El stop.

It's amazing how you can miss stuff that's right under your nose. I was about to write that underscorebleach.net's jotsheet, is another new Evanston blog worth reading, but I soon found out it was three years old.

In other Evanston news, Greetings from Evanston has some recent Tina Fey links.
