Local Stuff

There's a new, faster lake-crossing ferry, traveling from Milwaukee to Muskegon in 2 1/2 hours. The Trib has a story with some history of lake-crossing ferries.

Me3dia has moved on to a better place. It can't be beat.

Chicago Wilderness Site Finder "Search for sites that you can visit in Chicago Wilderness by selecting a site name, activity, amenity, site type, and/or county. "

John Woo will be in Chicago on June 12 to receive the Gene Siskel Film Center’s inaugural Visionary Award. Link found on Chicagoist, our newest local newsblog. Web and blog related links

KiloGhits and megaGhits: measuring web frequency "A measurement in Ghits will be by definition a count of the number of web pages returned by a search pattern "

Why Blogs Matter "Using the Google API, I've been tracking the position of Blogs vs Traditional Media on a range of different queries for a number of months.  The visualizations below, crafted with DHTML, portray a set of related queries." The conclusion? "blogs matter because users encounter them in high ranking positions in web searches".

Conversion from Pantone to RGB to Hex HTML I would suggest copying this page and saving it locally before the Pantone lawyers descend and shut it down.

Blog Software Breakdown "This chart displays attributes of different user-installed blog software packages side-by-side for comparison. " I'm presently looking for a new CMS myself. My requirements - free, installed on my choice of server, categories, photo upload feature, support for managing multiple-blogs with multiple authors, some sort of comment spam control or at least a fast way to delete them, no more God-damn "Out of memory during "large" request for 528384 bytes, total sbrk() is 8338392 bytes at /usr/local/lib/perl5/5.6.1/sun4-solaris/DB_File.pm line 252" errors!
