Anybody notice my archives here never worked? No, I didn't think anybody noticed. All fixed now.
One of the things that amazes me about the growth of weblogs is that I just assume that everybody doing one has at least a small level of comfort with the technology. When I started doing this, most people blogging were in the Web-building, or at least computer-related field and could deal with the times when technology went awry. But I'm discovering that many bloggers have no need know to learn anything but how to open a browser. This is a good thing, technology shouldn't get in the way of somebody's self-expression or knowledge delivery.
Posted by kiplog at September 26, 2002 01:40 PMThese innovations spread is concentric circles, reaching ever-less-technical people until they peter out (how soon this time?).
This is one reason why (a propos of your next entry) I think books about blogging (how to or best practices) could be worth the money. Those who learn best from free online information are already learning that way, but just because the subject matter is about being more involved with technology is no reason to turn up your nose at long-proven methods of teaching and explaining.
Posted by: xian on October 1, 2002 12:05 PMI certainly don't turn my nose up at books, I just have that twinge against paying for something that is already free. Also my opinion on blogging books is biased since I don't feel I need to be taught how to blog, I've already learned.
That said, today I bought Rebecca Blood's The Weblog Handbook. Well written and very informative, I would highly recommend it to any new blogger. It's going to be very useful to me for my presentation, for it will help me organize some thoughts and give me a few references, but I can say without trying to sound snooty, I already know this stuff.
